Red Bull Driver Academy vs F1 Rivals: Top 10 (2026)
Red Bull has put more juniors into F1 than any rival, yet fewer than one in five of its signings ever starts a Grand Prix, while Mercedes' entire 2026 line-up came through its own programme.

02Worth knowing
What the AIs noticed while building the list.
Pérez joined the Ferrari academy only after his Sauber seat was announced, and won all six of his races after leaving it. Wikipedia's graduate list leaves him and Stroll out; PlanetF1's 23% counts them.
Red Bull's graduate count changes with the denominator: 17 of 93 (2023), 14 of 70+ (2019), and 18 or 20 by 2026.
The pipeline is measured in half-decades: Câmara took about 6 years from Ferrari signing to race seat, and Antonelli took 7 from Mercedes junior to works seat.
No published table separates parent-team seats from customer-team seats, and none has a consistent count of signings since 2005, so the conversion rates compare different groups.
03Questions people ask
How do you join the Ferrari Driver Academy?
Through regional selection programmes for 14–17-year-olds (Europe, Asia-Pacific at Sepang, Latin America). The best go to the Scouting World Final at Maranello, where finalists drive an F4 car at Fiorano.
What is the Red Bull driver academy?
The Red Bull Junior Team. By PlanetF1's 2023 count it had signed 93 drivers, and 17 (18.28%) started a Grand Prix, among them Vettel and Verstappen, who have 8 titles between them.
Source ↗Which academy has the best conversion rate?
McLaren and Williams top PlanetF1's 2023 table at 28%, Mercedes is at 27.27% from only 11 signings, and Red Bull is lowest of the big five at 18.28%.
Source ↗Why do academy conversion rates differ between sources?
Sources count members differently. PlanetF1 counts a driver for every academy they passed through, so Piastri counts for Alpine although he races for McLaren. Wikipedia leaves out drivers who reached F1 by other routes.
Source ↗04How we counted
In plain words, no formulas.
1The question
Top 10 F1 Driver Academies Ranked by How Many Juniors Reach a Race Seat, and What They Achieve Once There
2Why this topic
The reader can see which academies turn juniors into race seats and race wins and which only collect juniors, by setting academy rosters against race results. No single published list does that.
3Where it applies
Formula 1 and junior single-seaters, academy signings since 2005, with 2026 grid and 2027 announcements
4What we looked at
- Conversion: share of contracted juniors who start at least one Grand Prix, set against academy size
- Career output per graduate: wins, podiums and titles
- Where graduates race: the parent team, a customer or partner team (Haas, Sauber, Racing Bulls), or a rival
- Graduates confirmed for 2027 and years from academy entry to race seat
- PlanetF1 academy efficiency ranking (Dec 2023) — Members signed per academy and the share who reached F1, won a race or won a title; drivers count for every academy they were in
- Formula 1 official driver records — Career wins, podiums and titles per graduate through Singapore 2026
- Formula 1 academy survey — Current juniors and their feeder-series levels for each team programme
- Wikipedia: Ferrari Driver Academy — Roster, years of membership and which team each graduate joined in F1
5Who ranked
9 AIs, each building its own list of ten independently and naming a source for every place: Claude, ChatGPT, Meta, Gemini, Nemotron, Qwen, DeepSeek, Ernie, MiMo.
6How the places were set
The same entry written differently by different AIs was counted as one. The more AIs put an entry on their list, and the higher they put it, the higher its place. "AI agreement" shows how many of the AIs had it on their own list. Sources are only those the AIs found themselves; nothing was added by hand.

What ChatGPT noticed

Ferrari’s 2027 Haas pathway will place Câmara alongside another Ferrari-trained driver, Bearman, in the same customer team.

What DeepSeek noticed
Red Bull's 17 graduates are more than Ferrari (6) and Mercedes (3) combined.
Since 2020, only two F2 champions have gone straight to F1: Piastri (2023) and Bortoleto (2025).
McLaren's 28% conversion is the highest, but Hamilton is still the only race winner it produced.

93 signings produced 17 F1 race drivers — the lowest hit rate among the big academies, and still 8 world titles (Vettel 4 + Verstappen 4)

Source ↗ - 3Ferrari Driver Academy
Pérez's 6 wins and Stroll's podiums all came after Ferrari let them go — the label is not the career
Source ↗ - 4Mercedes Junior Programme
2025 was the first season Mercedes fielded two academy graduates (Russell + Antonelli) — a higher share of works seats than any rival programme

What MiMo noticed
Even the best-run academy converts fewer than 1 in 5 signings: Red Bull's 18.28% (17 of 93) is the highest total of graduates and still a lower percentage than McLaren's or Williams's 28%.
Pérez's 6 Grand Prix wins and Stroll's podiums all came after Ferrari released them — Wikipedia's official FDA graduates table excludes both, while PlanetF1's conversion count includes them.
Camara took 6 years from FDA entry (autumn 2021) to a Haas race seat (2027); Antonelli took 7 years from Mercedes junior entry (2018) to the works seat (2025) — the pipeline is measured in half-decades, not seasons.
