02Worth knowing
What the AIs noticed while building the list.
The console, not the game, sets the burden. In India the game alone is about a quarter of a month's pay, while a console plus the game is 2.5–3.3 months.
Consoles got dearer just before launch. Sony raised PS5 prices from April 2, 2026, and Microsoft raised the Series S to $499.99 in August.
Sticker price and affordability run almost opposite. The game is cheapest in dollars in South Korea (about $58), Japan (about $61) and India (about $63), yet India carries the heaviest burden against pay.
The UK tops Zero1's July excitement table, which combines several signals and is not Google Trends. Yet a copy costs British buyers only about 2.7% of average net monthly pay.

1The question
Top 10 Countries Where GTA VI Costs the Most to Play, Measured Against Local Pay
2Why this topic
No store or statistics office publishes the game and console price beside local pay, so this shows where the excitement and the cost of joining are both highest.
3Where it applies
Countries where official PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S pre-orders for GTA VI are open
4What we looked at
- Only countries in the top half of Google Trends interest in GTA VI during launch-trailer week (October 15–21, 2026). This measures search attention, not the number of buyers.
- Rank by the local price of the cheapest new compatible console plus the standard edition of the game, divided by the latest average monthly employee earnings in that country.
- Show a second figure for people who already own a console: the game's price alone, also as a share of monthly earnings.
- Google Trends (Google) — GTA VI searches as a share of all searches in each country, on a 0–100 index. The October 15–21 week is still running, so the top-half filter could not be applied yet.

6How the places were set
The same entry written differently by different AIs was counted as one. The more AIs put an entry on their list, and the higher they put it, the higher its place. "AI agreement" shows how many of the AIs had it on their own list. Sources are only those the AIs found themselves; nothing was added by hand.

- 10United States
At only 8% of average monthly pay for both console and game, Rockstar Games' domestic market offers the lowest economic barrier in the world.
What Gemini noticed
The economic barrier to entry spans a twenty-three-fold gap: buying the console and game consumes 186% of monthly wages in India versus just 8% in the United States.
Hardware is the definitive gatekeeper: existing console owners in almost every country spend under 15% of monthly income on the game alone, but first-time buyers in emerging markets face multi-month salary commitments.

What Kimi noticed
The hardware gap dwarfs the software gap. The $79.99 game alone costs about 5-6% of average monthly pay in South Africa, Romania and Hungary, but around 25% in India — and adding the cheapest console pushes India to roughly 250% of a month's pay versus about 9% in the US ($579.98 for Series S + game against $6,228 average monthly earnings).
Consoles got more expensive as the generation aged, not cheaper: Sony raised the PS5 by $100/€100/£90 in April 2026 and Microsoft lifted the Xbox Series S 512GB to $499.99 in August 2026, both blaming an AI-driven memory shortage — so first-time GTA VI buyers face the priciest entry point in the console's life.
In US-dollar terms the game is actually cheapest in South Korea (≈$58), Japan (≈$61) and India (≈$63), and priciest in Israel (≈$107) and Switzerland (≈$98) — yet measured against local pay, India is the most expensive place in this ranking to play it. Sticker price and affordability rank almost inversely.
Rockstar's own door is wide open almost everywhere: pre-orders run through the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Rockstar Store, with PlayStation listing exclusions only for Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Russia and Taiwan.

What MiMo noticed
The country that is most excited about GTA VI is not the one that pays the most for it: the UK tops the hype table at score 100 with 14.8m monthly searches, yet Brits give up only 2.7% of average net monthly pay for a copy — versus 25.2% in Argentina.
South Korea has the cheapest converted standard price in the world (~$58) and one of the lightest burdens (2.2% of monthly net income) — the mirror image of Argentina's quarter-of-a-month copy.
For anyone who does not already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, 2026 console price hikes matter more than the game price: a Series S-class console is reported at roughly 67% above its $299 launch, so hardware is about six times the cost of the copy.
Pre-orders are not universal: Taiwan and Malaysia are blocked on rating grounds and Ukraine has no native Xbox store, so 'how much is GTA 6' has no single answer in those markets.
