03How we counted

In plain words, no formulas.

1The question

Top 10 Indian school boards by timetable lead time and candidate scale

2Why this topic

It compares official notice windows with board size, giving context that neither timetable dates nor enrollment totals provide alone.

3Where it applies

India, national and state Class 10 and 12 examination boards

4What we looked at

  • Compare days between the official timetable release and the first theory exam.
  • Set that notice window against the number of registered candidates across secondary and senior secondary exams.
  • School examination boards and their official timetable releases — Publication date and first theory exam date; elapsed days calculated where the supplied sources identify both dates. Release-date prec
  • Board and government candidate reporting — Registered or expected candidates across Class 10 and 12 where available; registered, appeared and expected totals are labeled separately, not treated as ide

5Who ranked

The leading AIs, each building its own list of ten independently and naming a source for every place: ChatGPT, Meta, Nemotron, Gemini, Nova, MiMo, DeepSeek, Wenxin, Kimi.

6How the places were set

The same entry written differently by different AIs was counted as one. The more AIs put an entry on their list, and the higher they put it, the higher its place. "AI agreement" shows how many of the AIs had it on their own list. Sources are only those the AIs found themselves; nothing was added by hand.

What ChatGPT noticed

UPMSP’s 54.4 lakh combined registrations exceed CBSE’s roughly 45 lakh expected candidates, but the measures are from different years and reporting bases.

Maharashtra’s August broad-date announcement gave much longer advance warning than the detailed November timetable; treating either as “the release date” changes the comparison materially.

UP Board scheduled both classes to start on the same day, while Bihar began Class 12 more than two weeks before Class 10 in 2025.

CBSE’s 2026 tentative timetable is an unusual case: long lead time was intentionally introduced to help schools plan around a larger exam operation.

16.1 lakh candidates and only about 10 days from the reported February 18 timetable to the February 28 II PUC exam.

What DeepSeek noticed

UPMSP had both the largest candidate base (52.3 lakh) and a 105-day notice — scale did not force a short lead there.

CISCE, outside the top 10 on scale with about 4.1 lakh candidates, still gave 91 days' notice — small scale alone does not guarantee a longer notice period.

What Kimi noticed

Candidate scale is not destiny: UP handled 5.23 million registrations with 105 days, while Bihar gave 2.81 million only 65 and MP gave 1.41 million 181 days.

Tentative publication materially changes the metric: Karnataka's first SSLC timetable gave 161 days, but its 4 November final sheet reduced the window to 116 days.

The two national private-board systems sit at opposite scale points: CBSE paired about 4.2 million candidates with 146 days, while CISCE paired 362,037 with 168 days.
